THE POSITION

The Brattle Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist to work in our Cambridge, MA office. Our office in Cambridge is conveniently located in Harvard Square near the Harvard Square train stop on the red line, we will be moving to downtown Boston by summer of 2017. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this position has the overall responsibility for preparing and processing payroll, accounts payable, and employee reimbursements.  This position will also be responsible for projects as assigned to support the Accounting team, to include reporting, analysis, reconciliation, compliance, and forecasting.

THE CANDIDATE

The Payroll Specialist will be a proactive and collaborative individual who thrives in a fast-paced and professional environment.  Vital to success in this position are attention to detail, excellent time management skills, flexibility, and keen problem solving capabilities.  This individual should have experience with payroll and some exposure to general accounting over the course of his/her career.

The core responsibilities of this position include:

  • Review and processing of payroll change information from HR Data and other sources and resolution of any related issues

  • Preparation and transmission of payroll through ADP or similar payroll service provider for variety of payroll cycles/categories

  • Reconciliation and/or audit of employee records to ensure accuracy of payroll and benefits rates and deductions

  • Maintenance of payroll files in an organized and confidential manner

  • Ongoing research and review of benefit and tax law changes as related to payroll

  • Participation in payroll year-end process

  • Review, coding, and processing of vendor invoices

  • Review and reconciliation of corporate credit cards

  • Review, reconciliation, and posting of employee expense reports adhering to Company policy

  • Processing check, EFT, and wire payments to vendors and employees and resolving any issues as they arise

  • Maintenance of employee, vendor, and A/P invoice files

  • Acting as primary point of contact for any employee or vendor inquiries

This position requires professionalism, attention to detail, and adaptability, as well as the ability to handle numerous projects and deliverables.  Requirements for the successful candidate include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field

  • 1-3 years of experience focusing on payroll

  • Proficiency in MS Excel

  • Experience with ADP or similar payroll system is highly desirable in addition to exposure to general accounting software

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and demands simultaneously in a fast-paced and highly professional environment

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with clients, team members, and third-party service providers

  • Excellent time management skills coupled with keen attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of his/her work coupled with the ability to work on a team and contribute to that team

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional maturity while exercising appropriate judgment

  • Overtime may be required
