Senior Manager of Training and Development

Location: Multiple Offices


The Brattle Group is seeking a Senior Manager of Training and Development with a strong track record of building high performance organizations to work in our Boston, MA, San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC office. The person in this role leads, develops, communicates, and delivers a systematic process for the development of consulting staff.  The incumbent works closely with consulting staff who serve as liaisons in training and development.   This position reports to the Vice-President of Human Resources and has management responsibility for three members of the HR team.


This position requires strong collaboration, organizational, and time management skills, as well as the ability to handle numerous projects and deliverables.  The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 15+ years of increasing responsibility (including management of staff) in a professional services or similar organization with a substantial amount of experience in the areas of training, development, organizational design, or related area. Ideally, s/he will also have experience in other aspects of Human Resources such as recruiting, benefits, compensation, employee relations, and/or administration.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; a graduate degree is highly desirable. Certification in one or more employee/team assessment/development tools is a plus.
  • Technical training and development capabilities:  Expected to have a successful track record of implementing training and development initiatives that have had a clear, positive, and forward-thinking impact on the performance of the organization.  The desired candidate should be conversant with concepts across the training and development spectrum, with experience in talent building, coaching and mentoring, facilitating feedback, motivating, and leadership development.
  • Collaboration and influence talents:  Demonstrated ability to work with staff at all levels and to build strong relationships with people across the organization is necessary.  While the Senior Manager is expected to be self-directed and pro-active, s/he is also expected to have a demonstrated style of regularly seeking input and buy-in from key groups/people and a track record of being able to get things done through influence and consensus. The desired candidate will be able to quickly build trust and credibility.
  • Communication skills:  The person we are seeking is able to deliver clear, concise, and effective messages orally and in writing and has a history of using the right tone, channel, and manner for all communications. S/he encourages others to express contrary views and facilitates and promotes frank discussion of tough issues.
  • People and team development focus:  The desired candidate motivates, mentors, and empowers individuals and groups towards high performance and ownership of roles.  S/he has a demonstrated record of success in building and leading teams and building organizational capabilities. S/he routinely and naturally provides feedback and is actively involved in the development of those with whom s/he regularly works.
  • Facility to embrace innovation and change:  The desired candidate develops creative solutions to the firm’s issues and effectively champions innovation to improve the long term prospects of the firm.
  • Occasional night and weekend work is required, as well as travel to other Brattle offices.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is expected.
