Digital Content Strategist

Founded in 1941, Sky & Telescope Magazine, the world’s leading publication for serious amateur astronomers, is seeking a Digital Content Strategist to join its editorial team in its Cambridge, MA office. The DCS’s primary role in this new full-time position will be to commission, write, edit, and/or coordinate all non-news content posted to the S&T website, www.skyandtelescope.com. (Science and observing news will be handled separately by the News Editor, with whom the DCS will work closely.) This content includes introductory-level astronomy guides, stargazing blogs, club and event listings, S&T travel and product promotions, and other posts relevant to S&T’s readership and the astronomical community, including, if DCS’s skills permit, occasional videos.
The DCS will also assemble the weekly editorial newsletter and other e-blasts, oversee S&T’s social media presence, and investigate new platforms/endeavors for the expansion of S&T’s digital presence. That work will include coordinating with S&T editors on content’s digital-print interaction and publication. The DCS will come up with executable plans for capitalizing on these endeavors. The DCS will also handle administrative tasks related to magazine production and attend to reader queries.
Qualified applicants will have a bachelor’s degree in astronomy, journalism, or a related field, or in lieu of that a minimum of 2 years’ work experience in communications or amateur astronomy.
