The laboratory of Sameer Sheth, MD, PhD at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX is looking for a postdoctoral researcher interested in studying human cognition and decision-making using intracranial recordings in neurosurgical patients. The PI is a functional neurosurgeon, specializing in deep brain stimulation (DBS) and epilepsy surgery. The lab focuses on studying the pre-frontal cortical circuits involved in human decision-making using single neuron and LFP recordings (e.g., Sheth et al. Nature 2012; Smith et al. J Neurosci 2015). We are looking for an energetic and motivated postdoc to join our vibrant group and advance this field. Ongoing projects center on understanding the neurophysiology of higher cognitive processes in humans, using a rich array of physiology data as well as functional imaging data. The individual would be integrated within the broader Neuroscience, Engineering, Neurology, and Psychiatry community at Baylor and neighboring Rice University. All necessary facilities and equipment are readily available: high-end recording/stimulation equipment hardwired to patient recording rooms, access to advanced imaging capability with two research-dedicated 3T MRI scanners, and ample work space. The ideal candidate will have a background in cognitive neuroscience and/or engineering with a neuroscience focus, with extensive experience recording and analyzing NHP or human single unit or ECoG data. Expertise in time-series analysis and higher-order statistics is also important. The candidate should display high standards of academic writing and scientific presentation as captured in published first author manuscripts. Proficiency with programming (Matlab) and behavioral task design is essential. The lab is funded by grants from the NIH and several foundations.
