Position Description:

Ironwood is seeking a talented and forward-thinking leader with current pharmaceutical industry procurement and sourcing experience to build high performing, value adding procurement capability and oversee the company’s goods and services spend.  The scope of the role includes sourcing and procurement oversight for all major disciplines including: R&D, Commercial Operations, Global Operations, and G&A functions.  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of developing strategy, overseeing sourcing activity and creating efficient and effective process and policy. This is a senior-level position working with key functional stakeholders across the company toward the installation and maturity of Ironwood’s sourcing and procurement practices and will be expected to deliver improvement to the business as measured by customer satisfaction, service improvement, project execution, cost reduction and risk mitigation.  We welcome candidates interested in joining a highly collaborative team, contributing toward our goal of bringing innovative medicines to patients which treat unmet medical needs. This position will manage a team of procurement and sourcing professionals and will report to the Head of Global Supply Chain.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Working with key business stakeholders and leaders, collaboratively install strategic sourcing capability across Ironwood and serve as a business partner to Ironwood’s functional areas requiring procurement and sourcing support.
  • Provide strong visible leadership and ownership of the end-to-end sourcing and procurement and business processes.  Establish the credibility to enhance procurement and sourcing policies and enroll a broad range of stakeholders
  • Drive improvement across Ironwood’s category spend portfolios in terms of service and value
  • Oversee key RFx processes through development of requirements, competitive bid analyses, and negotiation of contract terms. 
  • Support the on-going management of key strategic suppliers to drive continuous improvement, improve performance, resolve quality issues, and coordinate new opportunities of mutual benefit. 
  • Work with key functional stakeholders to direct the development of supplier/service provider scorecards and service level agreements for key suppliers.  Oversee the development of process performance, vendor performance and category spend metrics.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and outside vendors/suppliers to define and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies
  • Serve as a leader and change agent toward improvement and optimization of Ironwood’s sourcing and procurement business processes, work flows and interfaces within the ERP environment to improve compliance, efficiency and productivity.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a three (3) year functional strategy and goals, including cost savings and process improvement targets. 
  • Build and incorporate vendor analysis and market benchmarking into sourcing decision-making.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Capabilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 15 years of progressive experience in procurement and sourcing across a broad range of spend categories in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop a talented team.   Able to inspire team members and others to deliver maximum value for the company.
  • Thorough understanding of category management and the development of data-driven category strategies. 
  • Strong analytical capabilities including cost modeling and benchmarking.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully in a team-based environment, lead cross functional teams, connect people, ideas, and resources, and lead decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.  Able to develop clear and concise materials and articulate his/her point(s) of view at all levels of the company. 
  • Adept at educating and communicating compelling messages and ideas with senior leaders
  • Process-oriented thinker with a strong commitment to continuous improvement
  • Skillful negotiator with solid business acumen.  Proven ability to coach and advance the negotiation skills of team members. 
  • Ability to form strong business relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Effective listener who can understand the true concerns, issues and needs of others and can thoughtfully engage in dialogue to reach solutions  
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (preferably SAP)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA preferred
  • CPSM (or equivalent) certification a plus
  • Experienced in contract law and the key business and legal terms associated with external vendor and supplier management. 
  • Knowledge of government reporting requirements and experience with FAR compliance programs
