Position description:

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative and professional employee communications and corporate communications strategist to join our dynamic and fast-paced Corporate Communications team. The position reports to the Associate Director of Corporate Communications and will have responsibility for managing key aspects of Ironwood’s employee communications strategy and tactical execution; managing corporate and employee awards, thought leadership opportunities and corporate reputation initiatives; and driving momentum for Ironwood’s budding corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. In addition, the corporate and employee communications senior associate / manager will need to be able to multitask and flex across the needs of the broader corporate communications group, collaborating with colleagues on additional communications tasks as needed.




  • Employee Communications: Keep employees informed of ongoing company news and happenings; build and document Ironwood’s inspiring company culture

    • Work closely with Associate Director, Corporate Communications to develop and implement all aspects of Ironwood’s employee communications strategy

    • Act as strategic communications partner on cross-functional project teams; work closely with HR, IT, Commercial, and R&D teams

    • Develop creative employee communications campaigns to build awareness of company strategy and business initiatives and to drive engagement in company culture

    • Write, edit and proof articles for posting on company intranet (Ironworks); handle routine updates to intranet

    • Provide strategic employee communications guidance to internal stakeholders; generate awareness and momentum for internal initiatives and events

    • Develop content and manage logistics and communications plans for companywide meetings

    • Contribute to planning and manage promotion of companywide social events; lead holiday party planning committee

    • Serve as corporate photographer

  • Corporate Social Responsibility: Enhance Ironwood’s internal and external reputation as a social responsibility organization that supports its communities and its employees’ efforts to give back

    • Create and drive momentum for an internal Ironwood community engagement toolkit that provides volunteer ideas and opportunities

    • Manage CSR intranet page, including promotion of upcoming volunteer opportunities and information about Ironwood’s community partners

    • Drive external and internal CSR communications strategy and execution, including employee engagement, storytelling and partner management

    • Work closely with Associate Director, Corporate Communications, to further develop organizational CSR philosophy and processes

  • Corporate Communications: Enhance Ironwood’s reputation by garnering recognition for the team and the organization externally

    • Identify key award opportunities for Ironwood or its employees; manage all aspects of award applications and internal notifications and communications

    • Identify key speaking opportunities for Ironwood executives and employees to align with organization’s communications priorities; support speaker nominations and content development as needed

    • Manage and update a range of Ironwood materials, including corporate presentation and aspects of corporate website

    • Provide strategic communications guidance to internal stakeholders regarding branding, proper usage of Ironwood corporate materials, and hosting or presenting at external events

    • Collaborate with broader corporate communications group on events, internal communications, collateral material development, press releases and other PR tasks as needed


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience on a corporate communications team or at a PR agency


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communications skills, including ability to develop well-written, error-free materials

  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders as well as with external organizations

  • Experience managing employee communications on a corporate communications team or at a PR agency

  • Experience planning and executing on a variety of events

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and shifting priorities in a faced-pace environment

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, O365, WebEx, Adobe Suite a plus)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience using DSLR camera for photo and video capture a plus

  • Biotech, healthcare or scientific experience a plus
