It’s an exciting time for Ironwood. After two decades of growth and innovation, in 2018 we announced our intent to create two focused, independent companies: Ironwood and “R&D Co.” This new way of doing business will enhance our agility and innovation, and empower our teams to make a bigger impact on our patients and on our industry.

The new Ironwood will focus on accelerating the growth of our marketed product Linzess® (linaclotide) and advancing the development of our innovative pipeline of treatments for GI diseases and abdominal pain. Following completion of the separation, the Manager, Benefits and Operations position will be part of the new Ironwood. The role will remain as described here.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the HR team to provide Benefits design and administration and HR Operations Excellence, assisting with compliance with federal and state regulations.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creates and owns processes and policies to support key HR processes including employee benefits administration and annual open enrollment, employee changes and transfers, leave management, and onboarding/offboarding.

  • Ensures high quality HR transactional data management through audits and internal controls.

  • Partners with outside counsel and internal stakeholders to manage all immigration matters, including but not limited to L-1 A/B visas, H-1B visas, US green card cases and business visas.

  • Partner with stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, competitive benefits strategy in alignment with the company’s objectives, initiatives and budget guidelines. Designs, documents, and communicates benefits plans and policies that align to core total rewards principles.

  • Manages the annual benefits open enrollment process, including partnering and negotiating with external vendors, preparing communications for employees, and working with the broader HR team.

  • Responsible for the 401(k) plan design, administration, documentation, and communication to employees.

  • Recommend and implement changes to current plans and policies to stay current with trends and benchmarked competitors; participate in benefits surveys.

  • Develops employee communications on benefits, policies, and key people processes; ensures proper record keeping and employee files.

  • Provides reports, documentation, and filings to be compliant on all benefits related regulations.

  • Manages robust wellness program in support of our unique culture. Researches and recommends cutting-edge and novel programs.

  • Assist in ad-hoc HR projects across the team as needed.



  • Minimum of 3-5 years related experience in benefits administration.

  • ​Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects;

  • Proven customer service excellence to resolve complex questions and problems;

  • Must be a detailed oriented problem solver who enjoys working as part of a team;

  • Experience with an integrated HRIS/Payroll/Benefit system is a plus;

  • Understanding of the FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ACA and other relevant laws;​

  • Experience in compliance with knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other relevant laws required;

  • Analytical skills and abilities; precise attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and intermediate to advanced skills with Excel;

  • BS/​BA required.​
