It’s an exciting time for Ironwood. After two decades of growth and innovation, in 2018 we announced our intent to create two focused, independent companies: Ironwood and “R&D Co.” This new way of doing business will enhance our agility and innovation, and empower our teams to make a bigger impact on our patients and on our industry.

The new Ironwood will focus on accelerating the growth of our marketed product Linzess® (linaclotide) and advancing the development of our innovative pipeline of treatments for GI diseases and abdominal pain. Following completion of the separation, the VP, Talent, Team and Culture position will be part of the new Ironwood. The role will remain as described here.

 

The Vice President, Talent, Team and Culture (TTC) serves as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team at Ironwood Pharmaceuticals. The VP will be joining Ironwood at a key inflection point as Ironwood intends to separate its earlier stage pipeline assets from its commercial asset and later stage GI pipeline during the first half of 2019.  As such, the VP of TTC will have a critical and highly influential role through the transition period and as part of the Senior Leadership Team creating and then executing on a new vision and strategy for the company.  The VP of TTC will be responsible for maintaining a workplace culture and practice that reinforces Ironwood’s values of inclusiveness, collaboration and humanity and attracts, develops, and retains top talent to deliver innovative medicines for patients. The VP of TTC has oversight of all human resource matters pertaining to Ironwood, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, employee relations, learning and organizational dynamics, talent acquisition, and performance management. In this role, you will ensure that HR processes are designed and executed flawlessly and strive for operational excellence.  In addition, the VP of TTC serves as the point person for all Ironwood Pharmaceuticals human resources strategic and leadership initiatives.

The VP of TTC serves as a culture champion and will work with senior leadership to ensure the organization is implementing values and behaviors where employees can thrive and do their best work, an environment where innovation and collaboration are fostered.  The VP of TTC is responsible for developing, communicating, and implementing a comprehensive talent management strategy that supports and drives a high-performance organization aimed at advancing the newly separated company’s mission and objectives. This role requires proficiency in talent management, leadership and organizational development, change management, strategic planning, HR operations, and cultural stewardship.

The VP of TTC leads and motivates the HR team and creates a clear vision, providing strategic leadership and guidance to align current and future workforce requirements to the strategy and mission of the organization. The VP of TTC is also responsible for ensuring an optimal employee experience across the entire employee lifecycle to galvanize performance and bolster employee retention.

  • Engages with the business to enhance workforce planning and development, including leadership development, retention and change management strategies.

  • Drives a culture of inclusion, empowerment, and accountability focused on leadership that embraces diversity and fosters a secure environment for innovation and excellence.

  • Champions diversity and inclusion initiatives to ensure a diverse and inclusive culture that attracts and retains a diverse talent pool.

  • Advises the leadership team on human resources management issues and oversees strategies/action steps for new or refined programs, policies, and processes to enhance organizational effectiveness and workplace culture.

  • Stays informed and up-to-date and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.

  • Oversees efforts to streamline human resources management workflows, systems, and processes to optimize the efficiency of the function

  • Serves as Staff to the Compensation, Talent and Organizational Development Committee of the Ironwood Pharmaceuticals Board of Directors.

The VP of TTC has deep business acumen, solid understanding of various HR functions, excellent analytical, conceptual, and strategic skills as well as an ability to demonstrate high personal impact and influence to build a strong trusted advisor relationship with business leaders. This person should be committed, thoughtful and observant.


Required:

  • Education: bachelor’s degree, with a strong preference for a master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Previous experience leading a high-performance HR team focused on the organization’s evolving needs and leading an organization through transition.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An independent thinker with strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity, while creating frameworks to solve problems and develop solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that inspires trust, excellence, innovation and the achievement of challenging goals.
