Associate Director, Strategy & Valuations

Description

The Associate Director will partner with the Corporate Development & Strategy functions to provide analytical and strategic decision making support as the teams evaluate organic and inorganic opportunities to maximize shareholder return.  This individual will lead cross-functional teams in consolidating research and analysis to support the valuation of assets in multiple therapeutic areas and stages, and will serve as resident valuation expert on the long-range plan, corporate development deal models & other ad hoc projects. The position reports to ‎the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis.

 

The individual in this role must demonstrate the ability to assimilate and interpret business outcome measures, clarify the context of change to others and influence decisions through advice, counsel or analysis. Key attributes for the ideal candidate include excellent analytical skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a proactive and positive manner.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Corporate Development
    • Partner with Corporate Development team in valuing investment opportunities and leading all financial aspects of the M&A process
      • Develop and maintain complex financial models to support structuring and analysis for acquisitions, partnerships, investment opportunities, etc.
      • Lead cross-functional collaboration with legal, accounting, tax and risk to advise the Corporate Development team on the structure of transactions process to maximize profitability and efficiency
      • Ensure deal economics are presented on a consistent and accurate basis and key issues are correctly disclosed/reflected
      • Prepare and deliver presentations to senior level management regarding decisions to advance targets, potential synergies, accretion/dilution projections, risks and opportunities, structure, etc.
      • Drive for process improvement and consistency in modelling and due diligence practices
      • Coordinate with ASC 820 Fair Value Specialists to support opening balance valuations, annual audits, etc.

 

  • Strategic Planning
    • Partner with VP of Corporate Strategy, R&D asset teams and Commercial New Product Planning team in the development of the alternative paths exercise & long-range plan
    • Collaborate with FP&A team to ensure alignment between short term operating plan, long range plan and deal models
    • Prepare BOD & senior management materials in support of strategic planning
  • Special Projects
    • Partner with functional & regional leads and provide valuation analysis & strategic decision making support on ad hoc projects across the company, including optimizing capital structure
    • Perform secondary research, utilizing Bloomberg as well as other industry databases

 

Requirements:

  • MBA and/or CFA required
  • 12+ years of progressively responsible experience with 5+ years of prior business development / M&A experience in biotech segment or banking experience strongly preferred
  • Strong analytic skills: able to clearly link financial results to operational performance drivers, recommend alternatives and drive positive change
  • High level of experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and industry databases (e.g. Bloomberg)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a proactive, positive, and constructive manner
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate initiative and independence, while meeting the changing demands of a growing department and organization
  • High-energy self-starter with history of successful accomplishments
  • Polished communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
