Description

Position Description:

As a member of the DMPK department, the qualified and highly motivated individual will be responsible for quantitative LC-MS/MS method development/qualification and sample analysis of small molecules, peptides and biomarkers in complex biological matrices. The successful candidate will use their in-depth knowledge of bioanalytical mass spectrometry, separation sciences, and the applicable bioanalytical techniques to support discovery and development projects. The candidate will be expected to represent DMPK at project teams and must have a good understanding of ADME assays and PK/PD. This team member will be expected to work with minimal supervision in a cross-functional team environment under the guidance of Ironwood’s core values.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Address and resolve scientific hypotheses in a fast-paced environment of rapidly changing priorities by providing in-vivo and in-vitro assay support to drug discovery/development programs
  • Conduct bioanalytical method development and sample analysis using LC-MS/MS to quantify small molecules, biomarkers, and peptides in matrices such as plasma, urine, organ tissues
  • Perform fit-for-purpose development/qualification of sample preparation and separation methods, as well as, data analysis, interpretation, and reporting, in compliance with standard record keeping procedures 
  • Strengthen DMPK’s bioanalytical MS capabilities by using expertise to help lead bioanalytical efforts in the lab, effectively balancing assay rigor against resource needs and study goals
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues (including chemists, toxicologists, and clinical managers) to enrich DMPK partnerships and enable the success of project goals and timelines 
  • Impact and influence project strategy by engaging in team discussions and providing guidance on the appropriate utilization of DMPK data
  • Work closely with DMPK team members, fostering open communication and innovation while mentoring junior colleagues, as needed 
  • Participate in all phases of MS laboratory operations including technology evaluations, implementation/acquisition of new applications and instrumentation, as well as execution of strategies to minimize instrument down time, and increase efficiency and productivity, as needed
  • Write bioanalytical method reports to for INDs when applicable 
  • Support outsourcing activities and associated tasks, as needed 

 

Basic Requirements:

  • A BS/MS in pharmaceutical sciences, analytical chemistry or related disciplines, with more than 10 years of bioanalytical industry experience, 5 years with PhD
  • Proven expertise in LC-MS/MS instrumentation and method development for a wide range of molecules 
  • Demonstrated experience working with a wide variety of biological matrices and bioanalytical techniques, including quantification of NCE in different organ tissues
  • A strong background in bioanalytical problem solving skills and a firm foundational understanding of industry guidelines for bioanalysis
  • Strong problem solver who is highly organized with the ability to thrive and lead in an environment with rapidly changing priorities. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and possibly lead projects as DMPK representative
  • Strong leadership skills and a commitment to implement new methodology, quality standards and strategic collaborations across functional groups is a must

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Broad understanding of DMPK and the associated workflows, with experience in ADME assays and knowledge of PK analysis
  • Familiarity with GLP and FDA Guidance on Method Validation
  • Experience in applying new technology, such as tissue imaging, to bioanalytical needs 
  • Understanding of translational sciences and biomarker assay method development and implementation
  • Experience with outsourcing LC-MS/MS assays to CROs
  • Experience in report writing for INDs, etc.
