Position description:

The Senior Manager, Supply Chain & Trade Operations is a leader within the Global Supply Chain organization who will lead and execute within the following disciplines: supply planning, inventory management, trade operations, and supplier contracting.

This person will manage the Commercial Supply Chain in a collaborative effort with Ironwood’s finance, accounting, quality, commercial and brand teams. Will support Trade functions as well as other internal and external stakeholders through management of all aspects of supply, demand, inventory, trade channel data and information exchanged with Ironwood’s trade partners.  Our trade partners include: wholesalers, specialty distributors, retail pharmacies, direct ship customers, and other key trade accounts, for Ironwood’s growing portfolio of commercial products.

The successful candidate will master the role by leading with an entrepreneurial spirit and a belief to act like an owner. This role reports to the Director, Supply Chain and is based at the company’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.


Trade Operations

  • Manages wholesaler customer experience and informs Ironwood’s wholesale distribution strategy and the ongoing development of trade channel strategies by providing comprehensive analytical assessments of wholesaler distribution performance

  • Manage wholesale distributor inventory levels to Ironwood optimize Ironwood quarterly financial goals

  • Establish and maintain business rules and processes with trade partners including order management, returns, buy-in, deduction management

  • Install and manage service agreements with Ironwood third-party logistics providers (3PLs) for the distribution of trade products and physician samples. Ensures budgets, and performance requirements are met.

  • Assists Trade Account Directors with development of key account quarterly business reviews and ongoing analysis of compliance with Distribution Service Agreements.

  • Develops and implements an effective trade management systems that support chargebacks, inventory management of trade channel product supply, daily sales reports, analysis of customer purchase patterns, and order projections.

  • Assists Finance and Brand Management by providing inputs to the development of Gross to Net sales impact, forecasting product demand and supply channel market analysis

  • Provides internal stakeholders with reports in support of E&O analysis, government price calculations, rebate calculation, and other reporting requirements.


Supply Chain and Sales and Operations Planning

  • Leads the Ironwood Commercial Sales and Operations Planning process.

  • Facilitates the creation of organizational goals and objectives in support of Ironwood’s strategy

  • Leads the supply planning and optimization effort by conducting supply, demand, and inventory planning. Performs spend and financial analysis, including execution of a process that minimizes inventory excess and obsolescence analysis

  • Executes and improves upon routine demand and supply planning business processes with internal stakeholders and external commercial customers

  • Develop materials for and coordinates internal and external Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes

  • Generates and issues monthly supplier forecasts and purchase orders to contract manufacturers

  • Provides decision-support analysis to the Supply Chain and Trade teams with launch planning process for Ironwood's pipeline products by analyzing industry data to support

  • Supply Chain lead for the implementation of inventory-related modules of Ironwood’s ERP system (SAP) and subsequent ownership of such modules


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or supply chain

  • Minimum 8 years of analytical experience working in pharmaceutical supply chain, finance, and/or operations

  • Project management experience as a key contributor or subject matter expert in finance or supply chain role where their contribution impacts overall project timeline and success

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with senior management on deliverables from the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process

  • In-depth knowledge of the commercial pharmaceutical supply chain and the interactions with related disciplines


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA and 3 years of experience working with Trade Channel segment customers including wholesalers and Retail Chains

  • Advanced business planning skills and the ability to apply best practices from other companies as appropriate

  • The ability to bring creative analytical approaches in support of business

  • Experience in working on distribution strategies for new product launches

  • Certification in Supply Chain, Lean, Six Sigma, Finance, and/or Project Management

  • Demonstrate the ability to provide thoughtful and dynamic leadership in a fast paced highly collaborative environment
