The Global Modelling Manager position is responsible to develop and implement strategies to maintain the state-of-the-art modelling programs across all regions in Clean Air. It entails responsibility for leading the computational efforts to support Clean Air customers including diesel and gasoline applications. The computational efforts include: development and maintenance of computational models and library; the support of customers in the utilization of these models; the communication of modelling programs internally and at customer locations. 15% travel to customer sites and other JM sites is required. The modelling team leader from the Americas region may directly report to this position.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a vision for the global modelling groups for developing and utilizing models to generate new ideas for catalyst design to seize opportunities and win business competitions
  • Define strategies and drive growth in computational modelling (technical) and team (personnel) through collaborations with regional groups
  • Analyze the market trend, regulations and product portfolio to determine a course of action for model development and applications
  • Negotiate project prioritization on global level to satisfy both internal and external customer needs
  • Lead the computational support of global customer programs. Interact with the GTADs/GTAMs to understand contribution to Key Customer strategies and with Regional Tech Directors to identify and develop global resources
  • Manage the interaction with customers and JM RTAMs to identify customer and internal modelling needs
  • Interact closely with the modelling team at JM Sonning to ensure that fundamental model development programs are aligned and on track
  • Support JM NA modelling team leader in regional project prioritization and meeting customer expectations
  • Comply with all Johnson Matthey Hazardous Waste procedures and local, state and federal regulatory requirements
  • Comply with company policies, including the Code of Ethics and MTMR


Are you the ideal candidate?

  • PhD Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with modelling specialization
  • 4+ years of experience in computational modelling, preferably of exhaust after-treatment devices and in leading a group/team in a matrix organization and management experience 
  • Good working knowledge of catalyst design and/or application
  • Project management skills and experience in dealing with global groups and virtual meetings across different culture are desired
  • MATLAB/Simulink experience and working knowledge of commercially available after-treatment software like AVL Boost/Axi Suite/GT Power, CFD and reacting flow packages
  • Excellent follow-up, written and oral communication, organization and interpersonal skills are desired
