Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Heart Institute (THI) of CHI Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center are seeking to recruit an experienced clinical researcher in the field of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) for a full-time faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor or above in the Division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Circulatory Support, Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine. Qualified candidates will be considered for the additional role of Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support Research as part of the Cullen Cardiovascular Research Laboratory.
Since its inception in 1972, the Cullen Laboratory has been involved in the design and testing of numerous products including ventricular assist devices, artificial hearts, vascular grafts, myocardial revascularization techniques, pacemakers, intravascular ultrasound probes, and tissue engineering technology. With over 20,000 square-feet, including fully equipped operating rooms, intensive care units, long- term monitoring units, large and small animal housing, pathology laboratories, histology laboratories, cell biology laboratories, echocardiography, cardiopulmonary bypass units, fluoroscopy, and electron microscopy, the lab is designed to support state of the art cardiovascular research. This includes product design, protocol design, bench and animal testing, preclinical validation studies (GLP), clinical trials, device training, and data coordination.
The ideal candidate will have a well-established track record of successful and prolific cardiovascular research that is clinically oriented and related to mechanical circulatory support, and should have significant experience collaborating with industry regarding product development. The recruited individual will have an MD and/or PhD degree. The position is purely research-based with no participation in patient- related care.
