The Production Supervisor directs employees who work in production, shipping, and/or inventory, plans and assigns work, enforces policies and procedures, and develops the skills and abilities of team members.  Identifies, recommends, plans, leads, and implements improvements in methods, processes, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions. Proactively and urgently drives improvements in safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost.  Directs and coordinates activities concerned with production and shipment of company products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.   


Key Responsibilities



  1. •Understands functions and responsibilities of each employee assigned to the Production Supervisor position and manages them in all aspects of employment, including but not limited to: 
    -Hiring, Performance, Discipline, and Termination 
    -Training, Coaching, Mentoring, Guidance, and Motivation

  2. •Effectively manages employees and/or processes to ensure all responsibilities of assigned employees are met and that each external/internal customers' needs are met in a timely manner.

  3. •Ensures systems utilized by department (i.e. JDE, ADP, SolidWorks, etc.) meets or exceeds needs of all company employees.

  4. •Develops, implements, and monitors progress of short-term and long-term goals for all assigned employees.

  5. •Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

  6. •Demonstrates confidence when navigating difficult situations/conversations and advancing ideas.


  1. •Conducts supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces regulations.

  2. •Plans and directs production and/or shipping activities while establishing priorities to ensure efficient operations.

  3. •Predicts, prevents, identifies, and solves problems using data, reports, observation, and other tools available.

  4. •Develops and implements methods, processes, and procedures designed to eliminate problems and improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost.

  6. •Recommends specific revisions of production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.

  7. •Monitors, coordinates, evaluates, and/or contributes to product development, research and 

  8. •Ensures workforce resources are adequate to meet the forecast production schedule.

  9. •Performs on-going safety walk-throughs and audits of work area and insures safe working environment.

Qualifications and Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business management field, plus a minimum of two years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.  
  • Background with manufacturing methods and continuous improvement  programs required. 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Assembly, fabrication, and shipping experience preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet.  Employee may be exposed to shop environment while distributing documents to shop area.  When on shop floor, employee will be required to wear safety glasses at all times, steel-toed footwear and ear protection when job demands presence in areas outside safety zones and gloves when handling material. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration, and occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the plant shop environment is moderately loud.  Handles hazardous waste according to company policy and participates in annual hazardous waste training.
