WBEZ is one of the largest, most decorated public radio organizations in the country. We believe in empowering journalists, and we’re known throughout the public radio world for our creative, impactful and ambitious work. In the Chicago region specifically, we’re known for our local news and talk programming that seeks to inform, engage and inspire listeners and readers across our listening area and beyond. Unlike many media organizations, WBEZ is growing, and this is a position that offers ample room for growth at one of the most innovative, creative and influential shops in public radio and one of the best local newsrooms in the Midwest.

The station is seeking an experienced journalist to help produce Morning Shift, WBEZ’s flagship daily one-hour call-in talk show. This producer will be part of a small team that helps shape the Morning Shift into an engaging, relevant and in-depth daily conversation that sparks curiosity, furthers understanding and connects diverse audiences to issues, ideas and each other. The Morning Shift is a news-driven program that features captivating interviews with public officials, newsmakers and journalists and often incorporates listener calls and comments into the discussion.

The Morning Shift producer will be involved in all aspects of daily show production and can expect to spend time each week producing segments for the broadcast and podcast and helping enhance the show’s digital footprint on the web and social media.

Candidates should have a journalism background with experience as a reporter, producer or editor for radio, TV and/or web. Social media skills are a plus. Experience working on a talk show is a plus but not an absolute necessity. The best candidate will be someone who can work both independently and collaboratively, who is highly creative and resourceful, and who has the flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing news cycle. A successful candidate will be someone who is willing to experiment and learn from his or her mistakes.
