The Role

We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and entrepreneurial individual who will serve as the end-to-end product owner of Chicago Public Media’s digital products which include the Chicago Public media website and our member experience starting with the donation form and member center.  This role will also support our music station, Vocalo, and their digital presence including their site and app.  We are seeking an individual who can propel these digital products to the next level, both from a feature/functionality perspective, as well as from an engagement and loyalty point of view.  These products are crucial to the success of our organization since membership is our principal source of revenue and fuels all that we do.  Reporting to the Director of Product Management, the Product Manager will work with internal stakeholders to create and manage the product roadmap, author requirements, manage designs, complete user testing and constantly drive to improve Chicago Public Media’s and Vocalo’s digital products.  A successful candidate will be a self-starter, highly collaborative, flexible, unafraid of ambiguity, and can handle multiple inputs and points of views.  Overall, we are looking for someone who exhibits strong business, design and technical acumen who can move Chicago Public Media’s digital products to the next level. 


  • Collaborate cross-functionally to create and manage the digital product roadmap for the membership and Vocalo experiences.  Ensure the roadmap can be easily understood by, and is transparent to, the full organization.  In particular, this role will collaborate heavily with the Membership/Marketing and Vocalo teams.
  • Drive projects from start to finish.  Establish system and processes to deliver projects on time and keep key stakeholders up-to-speed on project and milestones. 
  • Stay apprised of the marketplace, competitive set, and digital trends, particularly related to membership/donation and digital audio services both inside and outside of the public radio system.
  • Serve as the principal driver of the development efforts.  Author product requirements with input from relevant stakeholders and technology team.  Ensure product quality is high and releases are relatively error-free by instituting good QA practices leveraging internal staff, and audience members.
  • Define and track goals and KPIs relevant to all product releases.  Analyze data and user feedback to quantify impact of product development efforts and to inform iterative product development process.



  • B.A. or B.S. degree
  • 2+ years of product management experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, wireframing and prototyping tools
  • Demonstrated ability to translate listener/member (i.e. customer) needs and feedback into product requirements
  • Able to analyze and interpret data; experience building business cases to inform product roadmap
  • Able to juggle multiple priorities and make things happen, driving projects to completion
  • Experience in project management and an agile delivery process is preferred
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with proven track record of building innovative and intuitive consumer-facing products
