Associate Researcher


Supports AAA Foundation’s research, assists with identifying new research topics, drafting research needs statements, conduct in-house research activities such as literature reviews, design experiments, analyze data, interpret results, and prepare technical documents. . Work with other AAA entities with identifying and defining research needs, and supports AAA Foundation Executive Director, Traffic Research Group Leader, and other team members. Assists with other duties such as provide technical responses on inquiries related to traffic safety topics, prepare technical presentation materials, and communicate AAA Foundation’s research results.


Relationship of Job to Management

This position reports to the Traffic Research Group Leader of AAA Foundation.


Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Conduct in-house research projects including developing project plans, recommending appropriate research sources, organizing data, conducting data analyses, preparing technical documents, and coordinating meetings and follow-up communications on projects. (65%)
  2. Identify and define research needs in coordination with other AAA Foundation team members and other AAA entities, develop technical write-ups in response to research needs, and assist with presentation materials for AAA Foundation’s R&D Committee for approval. (20%)
  3. Carry out other assignments as needed, including responding to requests on traffic safety issues, providing technical support to other AAA Foundation associates, identifying emerging traffic safety issues, and disseminate research findings in meetings/conferences. (15%)



  • Bachelor/Master/Ph.D. with Major in Engineering, Human Factors, Experimental Psychology or related fields
  • 1-3 years of research experience on traffic issues
  • Background in traffic safety and engineering, statistical analysis, and research methodology
