Intern II - AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety

Description

 

Internship opportunities are intended for summer 2018.

 

Summary:

Under the direction of managers and senior-level research and technical associates at the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, the student interns will assist in carrying out traffic safety research in areas related to (1) emerging technologies, (2) vulnerable road users, (3) driver behavior, and performance, and (4) roadway systems and drivers.  The student interns will be directly involved with on-going AAA Foundation research projects, as well as performing analytical tasks on specific traffic safety issues and documenting findings.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical assistance on current research studies at the AAA Foundation and carry out tasks such as reviewing published literature and other documents, designing experiments, analyzing data, and documenting findings.  (50%)
  2. Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses on specific traffic safety topics as assigned.  (30%) 
  3. Prepare technical write-ups and other electronic documents.  (10%) 
  4. Participate in meetings and project team activities as necessary.  (10%)

 

Requirements:

  • Working towards a Master’s or Doctoral degree in the fields of Engineering, Experimental Psychology, Human Factors, Data Science, or Statistics
  • Knowledge and background on one or more areas of traffic safety
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data analysis software and/or computer simulation tools, including driving simulation and virtual reality
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and be adaptable to a variety of assignments
  • Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
